The idea for the piece is rooted in two simple chords played on the guitar and their relationship and feeling C major to E minor. To Rod Skelley, each chord has a color and feeling. Mindfulness and Contemplation begins with these two chords in all their colorful splendor, adds a melodic theme and then progresses into a brilliant theme and variations form with a final return to the original theme at the end. Instrumentation features classical guitar, piano, strings, and percussion. The song was composed, performed and recorded by Rod Skelley.
