From the recording Divine Enlightenment
Meditation and Imagery II (Transcendence) is track 3 on the 2022 crossover classical Rod Skelley album, Divine Enlightenment. It is a reimagining of the song Meditation and Imagery from the 2011 Rod Skelley EP Meditation and Imagery. This meditative piece begins with a rhythmic flow via a moving ostinato in the mid voice. A simple long melody brings light and color to the mid line while the bass adds the third part to the song. The piece has three distinct parts and in the second section, the rhythmic flow turns into a tremolo effect on three strings. In the final section, guitar part is two parts with an emphasis on rhythmic chordal harmonies. Meditation and Imagery is inspired by the minimalism of composers like Phillip Glass and Steve Reich as well as more traditional composers like Heitor Villa-Lobos.
Instrumentation features classical guitar, piano, strings, keyboard and percussion. The song was composed, performed and recorded by Rod Skelley.
Lyrics
Meditation and Imagery II: Transcendence Verse:
Truth came into the world in images and is received that way. The images are illuminated by light as we reflect and meditate on the secrets of the eternal. Colors and illusions reflect in the water. Our forms leave shadows on the earth. The illusory self is a reflection of the divine within.
