Strange Ignorance is the third song on the 2021 Infused album, Auto Epiphany. It was written as a collaboration between Dave Carles, who wrote the lyrics and Rod Skelley, who wrote the music. The recording on Auto Epiphany features Shawn Huss on vocals, Dave Carles on bass and Rod Skelley on electric guitar.
The lyrics were written by Dave Carles. They are about how our perception of what we know can change as we move throughout life. We tend to be unaware of how everything is changing around us until we stop to reflect. We develop a conceited view of the world based on our limited experiences and we think we have learned and experienced everything there is in life. We fool ourselves into thinking we know everything, when in reality we really don’t know anything.
Originally, the lyrics were set to different music and were going to be a song called, Mockingbird 66. The Mockingbird 66 reference came from a dream that Rod Skelley’s wife, Bonnie had where the band was doing a photoshoot in a graveyard next to an imaginary classic car called a Mockingbird 66. The lyrics were good, but the music never really fit the song so the song was abandoned
Strange Ignorance is the name of a different song composed by Rod Skelley in the 90s. The song had great music, but the lyrics needed some work. While trying to rework some lyrics for this long abandoned song, Rod Skelley came across the lyrics to Mockingbird 66 and realized they would make perfect lyrics for the music for Strange Ignorance.
Lyrics to Strange Ignorance on Auto Epiphany:
(Chorus)
The world become so cruel
But you don’t know anything
You’re still some kind of fool
Strange Ignorance prevails
(Verse)
You think you know where you are
You think you know where you’ll be
You think you’ve traveled far
You think you’ve seen everything to see
You think you’re invincible
You’ll live for eternity
Everything is incredible
Believe in the trinity
You think you know everything
The world’s revolving around you
In this life you’re the king
Everyone is here to serve you
You think you’re invincible
You’ll live for eternity
Everything is incredible
Believe in the trinity
Some of the original lyrics to Strange Ignorance that were abandoned:
Strange attitudes, strange clothes, strange views all condemned
Strange color, strange lifestyle, strange values all oppressed
Can’t be this, can’t be that, must think alike, conformity
Cannot question, cannot challenge, authority, pacify the masses
When will we ever understand?
When will we ever empathize?
When will we learn to tolerate?
