From the recording Auto Epiphany
Time Passing:
Time Passing is track 9 on the 2021 Infused album, Auto Epiphany. The words and music were composed by Rod Skelley. The recording on Auto Epiphany features Shawn Huss on vocals and acoustic guitar, Dave Carles on bass and Rod Skelley on electric guitar, keyboard and drums.
Time Passing is an emotional song about existence and loss. Although written in his youth, the song reflects the first realization of the passing of time and how it steals youth. People you knew change or move away and recreating those moments are impossible. Rod describes it as the most depressing song he ever wrote. The original lyrics were edited but still maintain the spirit of the original.
The music was written on acoustic guitar and the arpeggiated guitar riff is the basis for the song and remains in the Auto Epiphany version. The keyboards and surrounding guitar parts add atmosphere and the bass and drums add movement. The music is most definitely influenced by Pink Floyd.
Lyrics
Chorus:
Time passing, memories all that’s left
Time flying taking away my happiness
Time passing, I wish it would more slowly
Time flying much too high
All is unjust, out of balance, chaos
All that I had, it slips away
Everything I hope to be will fade
Everything will go away
No way to win, all vanity
Is there any meaning to find in life?
So what am I to do with darkness inside?
What am I to do with this emptiness?
