From the recording Auto Epiphany
Missing You is the fourth song on the 2021 Infused album, Auto Epiphany. The words and music were composed by Rod Skelley. The recording on Auto Epiphany features Shawn Huss on vocals and acoustic guitar, Dave Carles on bass and Rod Skelley on electric guitar and drums.
Missing You is an expressive song about the feelings of anxiety and insecurity experienced with new love. With new love comes that feeling of never wanting to be apart from the other person and spending time thinking about and longing for the other person’s touch. Distance and circumstance complicate relationships and further the anxiety of being apart.
The song was originally written by Rod in his early 20s as a simple love song for acoustic guitar and vocals, possibly for some long ago youthful love. It was a simple arpeggiated guitar part. While experimenting with recording, Rod found the song in an old notebook and started to put the song down to practice recording. The base of the song is still the original arpeggiated guitar part and the other parts layer on top. When the music started to come together, the original lyrics were shortened and revised. A friend compared the new sound of the song to Toad the Wet Sprocket although the Smashing Pumpkins was probably more of an influence.
Lyrics
Without you near. My thoughts become so unclear. Without you near. I'm overwhelmed by my fears.
I really miss you. I'm so lost without you. I really miss you. I'm so lost without you being here.
Without you nearby. All my hopes beging to wither and die. Without you nearby. The sun sets and refuses to rise.
I really miss you. I'm so lost without you. I really miss you. I'm so lost without you being here.
When you are away. I lie and tell you I'm OK. When you are away. I wish you would stay.
I really miss you. I'm so lost without you. I really miss you. I'm so lost without you being here.
